The next day, the house was quiet-too quiet. Demir and Deniz had left for kindergarten, their laughter now a haunting echo in Siana's ears.

Siana sat on the edge of her bed, her shoulders shaking as she clutched her mouth with both hands, trying-and failing-to hold back her sobs. Her chest burned. Her throat ached from the silence she forced upon herself.
